As I reflect on the work I've completed with my class thus far, I am definitely pleased. Initially my goal for the project was to send a message to the "world" regarding the serious issues surrounding global warming. I am often surprised as to how many of my students have never even heard of global warming nor understand the detrimental effects it has on our Earth. So, there I was thinking, inform students so they may inform others while incorporating technology. My goal was to have students spread the word through public announcements and create fliers to post in the Englewood neighborhood. By doing so, my students and I would make a difference. Even if it only meant exposure to the subject, my job would be done. Little did I know that the entire Imagine-It project would shift.
Although the Imagine-It project wasn't required to rely solely on utilization of technology, my project has shifted to about 80 percent usage in my classroom. My students and I have gone from a " no-tech" classroom environment to a" low- tech" environment. Although, a low tech environment may seem minimal to some, it speaks volume for the an under resourced school with the 99. 5% percent low income students. It took a lot of soul-searching as well as help from my advisor to use a different lens to realize what I have accomplished thus far. Also there were a lot of challenges as well as highs and lows and I'm sure there will be more due to the financial crisis of the school district. However, thanks to my advisor I can weather another storm. As a matter of fact, I may be even on the cusp of entering a "high-tech" environment.
Therefore, my project has a technological twist. After the DPG project and reading 50 Things You Can Do with Google Classroom, I decided to use this tool in my class. Currently my senior class is utilizing google classroom on almost a daily basis. I post all announcements, assignments, projects, grades and provide my students with feedback. I have a created a timeline ttps://www.lucidchart.com/documents/edit/b68196b1-b1cd-4dcf-befb-0ed995e0c9ef for various projects I would like my students to try. Some of my ideas and inspiration stem from actual assignments given by MSU while the others I've designed. I think the suggested tools provided can be easily incorporated into my classroom,, So why not implement them? I have simply modified them to meet the needs of my students. Furthermore, I get to learn with my students, How cool is that? . Moreover, I'm totally amazed at how some of them are able to take the tools provided and soar. I will provide updates and share the work of my students soon.
